A Child’s Diary: Shivan Sharma’s Corona Lockdown Days in Kathmandu, Nepal

We are encouraging children to write diaries and share with us. We are presenting Shivan Sharma, a 11-year old boy, who lives in Kathmandu, Nepal. Here are his thoughts (no edits, no filters):

April 25, 2020

Today I learned to play Om Jaya Jagdish Hare on piano. Maybe one day I will share my music with you one day.

Has anyone seen “ like a boss compilation videos”? They are so cool!! I did not have any classes today, so, I thought of watching it because it seemed like the most viewed. Also, I turned my profile picture into this:

Well, I did tell you I will share how my mom solved my friend’s problem, but, I think I should keep it private. So, there is that.

Next, I learned how to play “Om Jaya Jagdish Hare” on the piano/keyboard. It was a little tough in the beginning, but, I kept on trying and I at least could reach the end of one stanza. I also learned how to play a part in the song “Memories”.

My sister invented the perfect that matches me and holy buns, it is amazing. I will show it tomorrow because it is about to be dinner time (not lunch or breakfast or snacks). I live on the other side of the world, so, yes.

Wait, have I ever introduced myself? Let me check my previous diaries. No, not properly. Well, let me do it today. Hello everyone!! My name is Shivan Sharma and I live in Suncity Apartments, Kathmandu, Nepal. My mom’s name is Srijana Nepal. My dad’s name is Baburam Nepal. Typical names in a typical country. I am currently 11 years old. I know that this is too little too late to do this, but, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. Anyways, back to the introduction. I study in a school named Aksharaa School. Let me not talk of my favorites today, but, maybe tomorrow. I think that is enough of my introduction for today.

Well, also do forget to watch the youtube channel “ZHC”!! Bye

Shall I continue writing my diary after lockdown too? Something to think about. What do you think?

Hi everyone, I am back in my diary and I know that I am a little too late today. Well, let me tell you about today. We only had Nepali and Maths classes today. It was so much amazing to be in our math class for the first time.

We learned about simple multiplication. Our syllabus has not actually started yet so, we have not learned our syllabus. It will start from coming Monday. I am so excited. I do not have any problem until now, but my friend does. In her mobile, google meet does not work at all. She has tried so much but, we also could not help her. My mom did come up with a solution that can not be shared by me today, maybe I will continue this diary after lock-down. Only then will I tell you about it.

ext, nothing.absolutely nothing!!!! Just kidding!! I also helped my sister with her article document in the morning. Well, that might be it for today. Bye!!! Quote for today!!

  1. Simple and real. Out of many, your strength on talking to strangers is my favorite one. Life is all about exploring and understanding what is already out there. I wish you lots of love and luck to first keep writing and second love what you do in life ❤️.

  2. Hello again, Shivan! What an amazing bundle of talent you are! Reading your blog brings a smile on my face. I feel like I have known you for so long. Congrats for finishing your exams. Have a great summer break. I know your genius mind wont sit idle at any cost, even on a summer break! Keep writing and amazing your readers. And as a mother myself, lastly would like to add that the more a mother yells at her children the more she loves them 🙂 speaking outa’ personal experience here! hehe! TC. Xoxoxo to you and your mama! ♥️
