A Child’s Diary: Idhika Diwan’s Corona Lockdown Days

We are encouraging children to write diaries and share with us. We are presenting Idhika Diwan, a 7-year old girl, who lives in Thailand. Here are her thoughts as shared by her mother (no edits, no filters):

May 4, 2020

We could not visit India this year.

This is a very, very long holiday period. Normally, I spend these holidays in India. But this year, I am staying at my home in Thailand.

We could not go to the airport as our province is under lockdown because of COVID-19. We were not allowed to go to the airport and travel. We cannot go to a park or play area also. So I have started exercising every day at home. I do yoga by watching COSMIC KIDS on YouTube.

In this lockdown, I miss playing with my best friend. During school, I used to eat lunch with my friends. But in lockdown, I like to eat lunch with my family. Some times when I am lazy, my mom feeds me. I and my brother dust shelves and chairs also.

I do not like to study school syllabus in holidays. I like puzzles (crossword, I spy, Sudoku and jigsaw) and solve them every day.  In the afternoon, I play with my brother. Last week, we recycled an egg carton in to a butter fly wall hanging. I also cook with mom, as a treat.  On the weekend, I made a steamed banana raisin cake. I pre-heated the oven by myself. I was not afraid to handle a knife by myself, as I cut raisins into small pieces.

We grow a lot of plants in our house. So we need to take care of them too. I help to cut down weeds in our garden.  We dried chilies and bell peppers for their seeds. Later we planted these seeds in pots. I try to water them every day.  It is raining for some days and centipedes come out.

Do you know why centipedes take a long time to wear shoes? Because they wear hundred shoes. HA HA HA HA .This is my favorite joke.

Bye for this week.
