A Child’s Diary: Idhika Diwan’s Corona Lockdown Days

We are encouraging children to write diaries and share with us. We are presenting Idhika Diwan, a 7-year old girl, who lives in Thailand. Here are her thoughts as shared by her mother (no edits, no filters):

Guess what? This was my birthday week. I turned 7-years now. And Alexa, too, wished me 🙂

It was my birthday. But still it was lockdown. Every day I and my mom fight as I don’t want to eat banana for breakfast. I hate bananas. But on my birthday, I had no bananas. It was Birthday Promotion!!!! I had spaghetti for lunch. Spaghetti is my favorite food. We also get spaghetti at school.

I am 7 years old now. Before this birthday, I have celebrated my birthdays in INDIA with my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins. But this year we celebrated it in THAILAND with only my parents and younger brother.

We celebrated my birthday at our house. ALEXA from Amazon also wished me HAPPY BIRTH DAY. I played games like musical chairs, pin the tail in my birthday party. I also designed my own experiment about hand drizzling. My younger brother did not play the game pin the tail. He did not want to tie the cloth on his eyes because he was afraid of the dark. I wore a yellow birth day frock. I bought it before the lockdown.

I chose mango ice-cream cake for my birthday. YUMMY!!! My dad made the number 7 out of 7 candles. We ate pizza for dinner. Our family made a puppet show on the story “Lion and the mouse”. It is my favorite story. My mom drew a lion and I drew a mouse on the cardboard. I painted the cardboard puppets with my dad.

On my birthday night, I watched the movie “Home Alone 1”. I liked it because it was funny. My parents gifted me a doll house, as a birth day present. They made it from a plastic milk can. On my birth day, mom and I planted kidney beans. But do you know why? To save planet EARTH. The kidney beans sprouted just a day after my birthday and now they are very tall.

I read the book, FROZEN, on my birthday afternoon. I made this joke after looking at Olaf’s funny picture. Why does Olaf sit in the sun? Because he wants to get a tan. HA HA HA  HA.
