The Power of Meditation
If you’re new to meditation, here’s a simple exercise that you can try to get started:
- Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit down in a relaxed position, either in a chair or cross-legged on a cushion. You can also lie down if that’s more comfortable for you.
- Close your eyes and take a deep breath, counting to four as you do so. Hold your breath for a count of four, and then slowly release it, counting to four again. Repeat this process.
- Begin to focus your attention on your breath. Pay attention to the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breath.
- Continue to focus on your breath for 5-10 minutes. As you do so, try to let go of any thoughts or distractions. Just focus on the sensation of your breath moving in and out of your body.
- When you’re ready to finish, take a deep breath and slowly release it. Open your eyes and take a moment to stretch, and get up slowly.
